Woodland Walk of the Week: Stenner Woods

Stenner Woods
17 May 2016

We will be posting a Woodland Wallk of the Week every week for the next 8 weeks to show you the fantastics woodland walks we have on our doorstep right here in Greater Manchester.

To kick off our woodland walk of the week, why not visit Stenner Woods in Disbury this week? It is a small area of wet woodland with lots of crack willow which thrive in the submerged ground. A wooden boardwalk allows you to enjoy the area without getting your feet wet and the wardens will leave fallen trees standing where possible which make great climbing frames for kids! A visit to Stenner Woods is best combined with a walk along the River Mersey and a visit to nearby Fletcher Moss Botanical Gardens, keeping an eye out for resident great spotted woodpeckers and tree creepers.

A map and walking guide of the woods and the surrounding area can be found here:

The woods can be accessed from Millgate Lane (M20 2SP) and Stenner Lane (M20 2RQ) where there is limited free parking. It is close to the East Didsbury train and Metrolink stations and the 42 and 142 bus routes.
