This woodland covers the remnants of a big house and presumably its garden which I believe was demolished in the 1960's. The woodland has been used as play and den areas for local children for a long time. Since the overall area was reduced in size when the Irlam and Cadishead bypass was built 20+ years ago, it has been less visited. However there are plenty of birds in the wood, including owls who hunt there. I also believe bats roost there as we see the flying around the house every summer. It is opposite this woodland. It's a beautiful little oasis of green, close to a fast road and you can always hear birdsong.
